Benjamin Greene, Conductor

Benjamin Greene has been Music Director/Conductor of the Lakes Region Symphony since 1999. Under Ben's leadership, there has been a renewed enthusiasm for the LRSO in the Lakes Region and this is evident in the increased audience size and the overall size of the orchestra. Ben has brought exciting programming and soloists to the orchestra and with the addition of the Annual Holiday Pops concerts has transformed the group into a great and exciting community orchestra.

Ben is the Performing Arts Coordinator for the Concord School District in Concord NH. Ben's responsibilities include teaching orchestra, music theory and music history at Concord High School and overseeing the performing arts program of the Concord School District. His orchestras have consistently received superior ratings at both state and regional music festivals.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities in Concord, he serves as Music Director/Conductor of the Greater Manchester Youth Symphony Orchestra a position he has held since 1989. Ben serves as instructor of Double Bass at the Manchester Community School and Concord Community School and also serves on the faculty of Keene State College. Ben has conducted Jr. and Sr. High regional honors orchestras in Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.

In 1997 Ben was named NH String Teacher of the Year and in 2002 was named New Hampshire Music Teacher of the Year. He is past president of both the NH String Teachers Association and NH Music Educator's Association. Presently Ben serves on the Executive Board of the New Hampshire Music Educators Association as Tri-M Chair.

Ben is also active as a performer. He has performed with the Granite State Symphony, Lakes Region Symphony, Great Waters Music Festival and was Principal Double Bass and Assistant Conductor of the NH Philharmonic until 1999. In addition, he works as a freelance jazz musician in the New England region with various jazz groups.

In May 1982,Ben earned a B.S. in Music Education from Rhode Island College in Providence RI. While at Rhode Island College he studied double bass with Bela Wuliztler of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and conducting with Dr. Edward Markward. Ben and his wife Faith have 5 children and live in Concord New Hampshire.
